Positive Behaviour Support for Managing Anxiety and Trauma in Children

Positive Behaviour Support for Managing Anxiety and Trauma in Children

Saturday 12/05/2018
9:00 am - 3:00 pm

This fun day professional learning for all educators and those who work with children and young people.

Do you want some strategies which work to:

  • reduce and manage anxiety
  • support children who have experienced trauma
  • increase engagement in learning and academic outcomes
  • reduce classroom disruption
  • reduce violence and aggression
  • increase prosocial behaviour?

Then come to this special professional learning event hosted by the Southwest Early Childhood Network. Speakers will include:

Dr Tim Lewis, who directs the University of Missouri Centre for School-wide Positive Behaviour Support and is an expert on equipping educators to focus on the needs of students with emotional and behavioural disorders. His career has revolutionised the way administrators and teachers deploy school-wide systems for positive behavioural support and his work has impacted teachers in all US states and over 20 countries. Through excellence in research and through his own experience teaching, Dr Lewis has trained a generation of educators to evaluate and meet the needs of students, preparing them for lives of significance and success.

Sharonne Telfer, who pioneered Positive Behaviour Interventions and Supports in Western Australia 9 years ago and has trained hundreds of school staff in implementing school-wide positive behaviour strategies. Sharonne supports educators to implement evidence-based positive classroom practices to support success for all students.

Jennifer Payne, a teacher and psychologist who is passionate about supporting educators to meet the needs of students in regional and remote areas. Jennifer loves taking the research into what works and making it “real” and useful for classroom educators.

This session will be the first in a series, and all sessions will provide opportunities for ongoing practice in the use of these strategies in your classroom, with follow up sessions planned for throughout 2018.

Come and enjoy a day of stimulating sessions and great networking!
